WELLNESS & SUPPORT
Taking care of yourself is essential to creating a fantastic summer at Chestnut Lake. This section outlines the resources and support systems designed to help you stay healthy, energized, and balanced. The following questions explain how we care for one another at camp and how you can access support whenever you need it.
Where can I go if I don’t feel well?
Chestnut Lake’s Health Center is open daily and staffed by licensed medical professionals who can assist with illnesses, injuries, and general health concerns. If you’re not feeling well, notify your supervisor right away so that arrangements can be made for you to visit the Health Center. Each campus and work area also has well-stocked first aid kits for minor, non-emergency situations, so you can easily access basic supplies when needed. The medical team and leadership staff are always here to help you get the care and rest you need to feel your best.
How are medications handled at camp?
All staff medications — both prescription and over-the-counter — must be stored securely in the campus office. Medications should never be kept in cabins or personal living spaces if campers are living there (staff living in staff-only housing may keep medicines in their individual spaces). This policy ensures safety, proper storage, and access when needed. If you take medication regularly, the Health Center or campus office team will review procedures with you during orientation.
Who is there to help me during the summer?
Support is everywhere at CLC. Your Division Leader or supervisor of your Support area is your primary point of contact and guide throughout the summer, and Program Directors or Area Leaders are there to support Specialty Counselors in their specific program areas. You can also reach out to your Campus Assistant Director (if you are a counselor), any member of the Leadership Team, or to the Directors, who are there to listen, guide, and help whenever you need it. Whether you’re seeking advice, facing a challenge, or need someone to talk to, you’re never on your own at Chestnut Lake. No concern is too small, and help is always close by.
Who will I be supervised by?
General and Specialty Counselors are supervised by their Division Leader, who provides daily guidance and support. Specialty Counselors also work closely with their Program Directors and Area Leaders for activity-specific feedback and direction. Leadership and Support Staff report directly to an Assistant Director or Director, depending on their role. No matter your position, you’ll always have a clear point of contact and a team invested in helping you succeed.

How can I take care of myself during the summer?
The best way to stay well is to rest when you can, stay hydrated, eat nutritious meals, and speak up when you need support. Camp days are active and full, so pacing yourself and leaning on your team are key to staying balanced. Listen to your body, take advantage of breaks, and don’t hesitate to ask for help. Taking care of yourself helps you bring out your best in others all summer long.
What is the overall staff experience like?
The staff experience at Chestnut Lake is intense, rewarding, and unforgettable. You’ll work hard, laugh often, and build friendships and skills that last long after summer ends. CLC is more than just a job — it’s a community that challenges and supports you, helping you grow as a leader, teammate, and person. The work is meaningful, the impact is lasting, and the memories you create will last a lifetime.
