TRAVEL & ARRIVAL
Getting to camp and settling in should be simple and stress-free. This section covers everything you need to know about arrival and departure, access to essentials, and pre-camp training. Whether you’re driving in, flying from afar, or preparing for your first week on site, we’ll guide you through every step so you can focus on what matters most: starting your summer with confidence.
The following questions explain how travel, supplies, and orientation work at Chestnut Lake and what to expect as you get ready for life at camp.
How do I get to camp, and how do I leave camp at the end of the season?
Before camp begins, you’ll receive detailed travel information to help plan your arrival. Start dates vary by position, and each staff member will get specific instructions based on their role. You can drive to camp or coordinate transportation with our team from nearby airports or bus stations. Camp will assist in arranging those transfers. At the end of the season, camp provides departure transportation to the airport or other designated drop-off points to make your travel home organized and straightforward.
How do I get essentials (toiletries, supplies, etc.) once at camp?
Local stores (including Walmart) are just a short drive from camp, and we typically organize weekly staff supply runs throughout the summer to make shopping easy. You can also have items shipped directly to camp if you need something specific. Either way, you’ll be able to get the essentials you run out of or forget to pack once you arrive. We usually arrange one of these trips to Walmart within the first 24 hours of staff arriving at camp.
Is there staff training, and what does it include?
Yes! Staff Orientation & Training takes place before campers arrive and covers everything from safety and supervision to program instruction, leadership, and camp culture. It’s an immersive, hands-on experience designed to help you feel prepared and confident in your role. You’ll learn, grow, and connect with your peers while building the teamwork and spirit that make Chestnut Lake such a special place to live and work.
